Ken's Review
Food: B+ Shallos' menu is pretty diverse. Their signature appetizer is their homemade potato chips with cheese dipping sauce, which is a definite menu highlight. The menu consists of things from sandwiches, to steaks, to pastas. A couple of my favorites here at the Chicken Fetuccini Alfredo and the Steak Sandwich. The menu covers quite a few bases, but some areas could be expanded a little, in my opinion. What they do have on the menu, however, I have never had a bad meal.
Drinks: A+ This is one area where Shallos doesn't mess around. They advertise on their website and menu in the restaurant that they have over 300 bottled beers and over 40 draft beers. The selection of beer covers just about every country that produces, and offers a nice selection of beers that are hard to find, as well as ones that you have never heard of before. For a good place to try new beers, this is a definite must to visit.
Entertainment: B Because its main focus is a restaurant, and given the intimate amount of space in the building, the only real entertainment is the numerous televisions above the bar and in the upstairs eating area. There are ocassional nights of live music, but not very often. The restaurant doesn't have a lot of room outside of the tables and bar, and is a little too intimate to hold a lot of live concerts.
Atmosphere: A Atmosphere is one thing that Shallos does not lack. The interior of the restaurant is covered in old antique items, from old gas pumps to nostalgic signs. Lining the walls (and many areas of the place) are beer bottles of all kinds. Neon lights wrap around the entire upstairs and part of the downstairs. The atmosphere is very warm and has a good vibe from the antique nature of it that you don't find too many other places.
Overall: A- This is one of my favorite places to eat around where I live. The atmosphere, food, and beer selection come together for a very enjoyable experience. I wish there were more places like this, but the lack of such places makes eating here even more enjoyable. The location is easy to miss, as it sits back in a shopping center with little signage on the roads that run by. But when you find it, you are definitely glad you did.
