Ken's Review
Food: A Chatham Tap has a wide range of English-style items on their menu, as well as some American classics. For appetizers you can get things from hummus with pita chips to tapenade. There are a wide range of sandwiches, my favorite being the steak sandwich with rasher bacon, fried egg, and chipotle-jack cheese. Or if you want a little more for a meal, they offer entrees like Steak and Guiness Pie and Old English Sausage and Mash. And with burgers, chicken sandwiches, and fish and chips, you are sure to find something on the menu you want to try.
Drinks: A- Chatham Tap offers a range of various beers from the States, as well as other countries like England, Belgium, Mexico, and Holland. The mix of beers is a little odd, in my opinion, but the diversity does make it easy to find something you like, or something new to try that may not be that widely available. The pricing on their beers is a little higher for the imports, but that's not a huge surprise. They also have mixed drink options, as well as shots available.
Entertainment: B The only real entertainment Chatham Tap offers is on one of the several televisions around the restaurant/bar area. On one television you can be watching ESPN, and on another see cricket games, horse racing, or soccer. The space is not big enough to accomodate bands, or things of that nature, but this isn't really a place you go to for entertainment, but more for a good meal.
Atmosphere: B The atmosphere draws kind of mixed feelings. The walls are adorned with American and English team banners, posters, flags, etc. And the previously mentioned games of cricket and soccer on TV gives it a somewhat English feel. The dining and bar area is small and a little cramped, and the noise level from other patrons can sometimes get to a point where you have to raise your voice a bit to talk to the people you are there with. One nice aspect for a lot of people is that it is non-smoking until 11pm, so you don't have to be in a small room filled with smoke unless you want to visit later in the night.
Overall: A- The food and wide beer selection are the main highlights of Chatham Tap. If you want to go somewhere that offers food that you can't really find a lot of places, then this is definitely a good spot to try. Or if you want to mix things up and just eat somewhere that you can't find anywhere else, this one comes highly recommended. I've been there a couple times, and have never had a bad meal or bad service. The experience is overall very enjoyable, and with the convenient Mass Avenue location, it is perfect for having a nice dinner prior to a show at the Murat Theatre, or taking a walk down to the many shops on the strip.
