This was my beer of choice during the AFC Championship game between the Colts (yea!) and Patriots. Since it is fresh on my mind, I figured I would put up a review now.

Zach's Review

Taste: A  For a low calorie beer, this Mich has very good flavor. Even though I do like it's older cousin, Michelob Ultra, this time around, the Amber actually gives you some taste instead of just throwing some food coloring into water. Well done, Michelob!

Packaging: B Not much to say here. It is just an amber colored bottle with the typical Michelob label on it. I guess they could've tried harder, but who cares at this point. They don't have anything to hide like the good folks over at Four O headquarters.

Value: B+ For a beer with flavor, this isn't too badly priced. Here in Indy, you can find it on sale for $8.99 for a 12-pack. While not up to some import or microbrew standards, you don't feel like you are paying too much.

Drunkeness: C While this baby has the flavor of the big boy imports and microbrews, it sure as hell doesn't pack that same punch. I think I put down at least 6 last night and was only getting a buzz going. If you are looking to get hammered, look elsewhere. I think you'd have to come close to putting down a whole 12 to get drunk off of this. Of course, since it is so light, you won't get those nasty hangovers after putting back a 12-pack.

Overall: A This is one of my favorites to drink right now. Right price and good flavor come together in a nice little package here. While not as much of an adventure as say Four O or even some shitty beer like Icehouse, it gets the job done. Although, since I seem to have a favorite for awhile and then move on, my opinion may change later, but for now find yourself a 12-pack of this!

Ken's Review

Taste: A  I want to give the taste an A+, but I want to reserve my first A+ rating for something that really blows me out of the water.  However, the Michelob Ultra Amber is a very surprising and tasty beer.  Initially, you don't get anything out of it, but once it settles on your tongue it produces a very smooth and crisp taste.  This Amber doesn't quite have the depth of say a Killian's, but if you like Ambers (or even if you don't), you must give this one a try!

Packaging: B+ Packing, for me, doesn't have to be really explicit and over-the-top.  I like an alcohol that can present itself suitably to the beer.  I think Michelob Ultra Amber accomplishes this, because the bottle is not overstated, and is simple yet gives you the emotion of this beer: very clean.

Value: B  Value-wise, you can't complain.  It's not in the cheap-o price range of say a Natural Light case of beer, but doesn't get into the high-dollar range of imports.  Price is reasonable, and a good deal for a good taste.

Drunkeness: C+  I concur with Zach on this category.  I only bump the mark up a notch because I have the tolerance of a squirrel when it comes to alcohol.  But this is one much like the Milwaukee's Best Light, where I can drink more than I could with a lot of other beers before really getting buzzed or even messed up from it.  If what you are looking for is a good beer that you can drink for awhile and ride the night out on before getting the effects, this isn't a bad choice.

Overall: A  This is one beer I definitely will not turn down.  I'm not a huge fan of regular Michelob Ultra (though drinking the $1 bottles in Vegas made it better!), but this was definitely a surprise when I first had one, and I recommend even those who don't particularly care for Amber beers to give this one a shot.  It probably won't turn you into an overall Amber fan, but it's a great drink to try at least once and surprise yourself!

UPDATE!! (7/11/07) - Hey, it's Ken here.  Okay, because we aim to inform on this site, I feel it important to provide information such as this that is obtained at a later time.  A few weeks ago Zach and I were hanging out at Buffalo Wild Wings and we were drinking draft beers.  After a couple tall ones we decided to slow down a bit and get just a bottle of something different.  So we ordered this.  Unfortunately, we did not know that this drink comes in draft form, which is what our server assumed we wanted.  This is why I am now here.  If you are going to try Michelob Ultra Amber, please remember to only drink it from bottles!  I am not kidding here.  Zach and I both thought this beer was pretty bad in draft form.  Overall in the bottle: A.  Overall in draft: D.  Please drink responsibly....from the bottle.
