New Year's Eve...what a great time to try some new stuff. Happy New Year to everyone, and the background on this one is that Zach and I were standing at a great liquor store here in Indy looking for beers to have during the NYE party. I personally have never had any Rogue products before, and being a fan of amber beers, I thought why not try something new for the new year? Well, and for review, of course. Read on and see if it was a good pick.

Ken's Review

Taste: A- The taste of the Rogue American Amber is nothing short of great. It has a nice almost spicy taste to it, and it has a nice medium level of amber strength on the taste. It isn't an overpowering beer at all, and comes in just right. The only reason this didn't get a straight-up "A" is because the taste does seem to linger afterwards just a little too long. Not a huge deal, and that's all I can really say as a negative.

Packaging: B+ Rogue beers tend to have some pretty cool packaging styles, depending on the beer. This particular one has a depiction of a worker going to reach for his cap, while holding a pint. In the background is an American flag. It isn't hard to get what they are going for in relating the packaging to the beer.

Value: A Rogue beers are one of those beers that tend to run just a little bit higher in price, but with the American Amber the quality of the beer is worth the extra few bucks. You can find sixers of this running from the $10.99 to $12.99 range, depending on where you go. Overall not a bad price if you are looking for a good tasting beer to enjoy, but not enjoy enough to get trashed on.

Drunkeness: A The Rouge Amber does not at all disappoint in the alcohol content arena. This one comes in at a nice 5.6%, making it a good beer to get a good buzz going fast. This is not, however, a beer that we recommend you get hammered on. while the taste of the beer is great, it's one of those that you can just tell refunding it would royally blow. So get this definitely as a beer to un-wind with or have one of two with a friend, but don't plan on using this as your night-long party beer.

Overall: A- My first experience with Rogue was a very good one. I am looking forward to trying more of their wide selection in the future, and reviewing them. The American Amber is a definite recommendation for any fan of amber beer, or those who may want to get into that buzzed state pretty quickly. You will enjoy it, just don't enjoy it too much.
