Not sure why I had not reviewed this yet, as I've had it many times before. But after picking up a sixer this past Saturday night for some LAN party action, I thought I would finally get off my ass and get a review done. Read on to see how this one from Michelob stacks up.

Ken's Review

Taste: B+ I am a fan of Amber beers, so Amber Bock was one that didn't really rub me the wrong way too much. The taste is pretty smooth, with hints of caramel to it, and goes down pretty clean. There is a small aftertaste when you swallow, but nothing that hangs around too long. Some Amber beers can almost paint your tongue with taste, but this one stays on just long enough.

Packaging: B Michelob isn't known for extravagant packaging, and Amber Bock is no exception. It comes in a dark bottle, which is always a plus. The label shows Michelob in letters a size second only to the bigger Amber Bock across the center. Below that is Dark Lager in smaller letters, with 3 gold medals below that. The labeling is done with black background and gold trim, which gives the right tones for what you are about to drink.

Value: A- I paid $6.99 for my sixer, and that was at a liquor store that seemed a little higher priced on their beers than others. All-in-all, for what you get in taste and alcohol content with this one, the price is not really anything to complain about. Yeah, you can get cheaper stuff that will probably not have at least some taste other than skank to it, but why not go for something with a little depth when it only costs a buck or two more?

Drunkeness: B+ Michelob Amber Bock comes in at a reasonable 5.2% alcohol content. It's just enough to get a decent buzz going fairly quickly, without knocking you on your ass too fast to enjoy the occasion you are drinking it in. If you're a fan of Amber, this is not going to be the highest content you can find, but factor in the price, and it's worth giving up a little bit in the drunkenness department.

Overall: B+ Amber Bock is by no means by favorite Amber beer, but for fans of the Ultra Amber, this may give you a little more depth in taste without costing really any more. I've been a fan of every Michelob beer I've tried to this point, and Amber Bock is no exception. If you are a fan of Amber beers, this is one worth trying out. It may not appeal to everyone, but those who do enjoy it will appreciate it for what it is: a good, cheap Amber.
