Last night after the Pacers game, we were hanging out at Mass Ave Pub and they had this available so I thought I would give it a whirl. I am a fan of everything I've had from Goose Island in the past, and seasonals have treated me pretty well so far. See how the Summertime stacked up by reading on.

Ken's Review

Taste: B+ The Goose Island Summertime was kind of an odd thing to be drinking considering it was the last day of March, but the taste definitely gave you the feeling of summertime. There was mostly an orange taste to it, with a bit of spiciness in the background. It was pretty smooth going down, and left only a slight aftertaste that didn't hang around too long. I did find that after I got to the second one I was kind of over it, but I would definitely enjoy having it again sometime.

Packaging: B Goose Island packaging is pretty much the same across the board. This one had the trademark goose in the center, with Goose Island above it, and Summertime below it. The background depicts a beach, with sand and water. Nothing overly special, but nothing to really complain about.

Value: B+ The Goose Island is typically pretty reasonable on pricing, coming in around $7.99 a sixer. Since I was at a bar the single bottle ran me about $3.50, which was a little out of the range, but not terrible. If I was going to put down the sixer price, I may go for another Goose Island option depending on the occasion.

Drunkeness: B+ Goose Island Summertime comes in at a modest 5% alcohol content. Given that this is a bit of a citrusy beer, that is actually okay with me. I wouldn't really use this kind of beer as a vessel to a hard night of drinking, as the refunding of citrus beers is second only to death sometimes. You can get a good buzz going after a few of these, but don't make it your sole source for a drunken escapade.

Overall: B+ While I found the taste of Goose Island Summertime pretty good, I don't know that it convinced me enough to get as much as I can while it is out. There are a lot of seasonals I try to get what I can of while the availability is there, but Summertime kind of missed the mark on creating a desire to have more. Put this in a lineup with other Summer seasonals, and it wouldn't be my last choice, but more than likely not one of the first. Worth trying once at least for sure, but don't expect too many great things from it.
