Bottle of Rogue Mom HefeweizenThe other night, Cari wanted to have some beer and knowing I like wheats of all kinds, she decided on Rogue Mom Hefeweizen. I haven't had too many Rogue beers, but they have a good reputation and I love the wheats, so I had high expectations. Read on to see if Mom was able to deliver on a quality brew.

Zach's Review

Taste: B+ Upon taking the first sip of this beer, you know it is a wheat. It is very smooth with a nice hint of citrus and no bitter aftertaste. I know some people like lemon in their wheat beer and I occasionally do as well, but with this one there is no need. The taste is good enough and I think it would give it too much citrus which wouldn't be a good thing. If I want fruit in my beer, I'll go for a lambic or sour.

Packaging: A Like all Rogue beers that I have ever seen, this one has a drawing of a person who is supposed to represent the beer. In this case, it is an older woman who I can only assume is supposed to be your Mom enjoying a mug of beer. My Mom is not as old as this woman and doesn't like beer, but it is still funny and who doesn't want their Mom to bring them a mug of beer when they see her!

Value: ? I have no idea the cost of this beer, but I would guess it is probably around $4 for the bomber. If that is the case, I would say it is a good value. Regardless, this beer is probably worth it up to around $5. I suppose I really need to get off my ass and find out the cost of these beers. Although that may not happen as it is really easy to have your wife bring beer home from work, plus she gets a discount. That is just too easy!

Drunkeness: B At 5.2%, this beer is decent on the ABV and if you drank the whole bomber yourself you'd have a good buzz going. I'm not sure how the hangover would be, but this beer is pretty easy drinking so you could easily get drunk on it.

Overall: B+ I like this nice, crisp wheat beer and would definitely drink it again. While it isn't as good as my favorite, Hocker Pschorr, it is certainly a nice alternative and not as epensive. The 22-oz bomber is also nice if you just want to have a little beer after work and don't mind sharing. For those who like wheat beer, you should defintely give this one a shot. Now, I think I need to try some more offerings from Rogue.
