Review of Michelob Shock Top

Took a trip down to my "old neighborhood" on Sunday afternoon to see a friend of mine, who had just the night before purchased a 12 pack of Michelob mixed selection. One of them was the Shock Top, which I tried first. Michelob has not disappointed so far with the wide range of their beverages I've tried. See how this seasonal stacked up by reading on.
Ken's Review
Taste: B Shock Top wasn't a huge surprise by any stretch of the imagination. It is a spring seasonal Belgian white that is flavored with citrus spices. There wasn't an overwhelming taste of the spice in it, but instead it was almost too dulled down. There was more general aftertaste than you got actually drinking it. This one could have been toned up a little more to have some more body to it. While it was kind of lacking in this arena, I can't say it tasted bad. It was decent for what you got from it.
Packaging: B This one was interesting. The Shock Top label has the side view of an orange peel, wearing sunglasses, and has an orange mohawk. There is even a nose and mouth. Sticking out the sides on the bottom of this side profiled orange wedge were stalks of wheat, and the whole image sat on what was representing a wheat field. Okay, so the orange peel in sunglasses was kind of amusing, but overall kind of goofy and unnecessary.
Value: B+ Michelob has always been a reasonably priced beer, and since mine was free I really can't complain too much in the value department. If you like low-key Belgian White Ales, then this would be worth ponying up for. If you are just a fan of seasonal beers, maybe go in with some other people until you know whether you like it enough to fork out a full sixer price.
Drunkeness: B Shock Top doesn't shock in the alcohol content arena, coming in at a reasonable 5.2%. While a little higher than its brothers, the Shock Top maybe could have used a little extra alcohol to give you what you were missing in taste.
Overall: B+ I don't want to say that Shock Top was a disappointment, because that does go a little too far in my opinion of it. I will say that it is a decent beer, and not unexpected from Michelob since they aren't known for having a lot of beers that have real body to them. I wouldn't say to ignore this one, but don't get your hopes up too high. It makes a great Spring seasonal, but it won't make me sad when summer gets here.
