Zach and I were at a family get together last weekend in Ohio. After the beer that was available started to run short, he and I made a trip to a liquor store near our uncle's house and found this beer selection (among a few others). I had never had anything from Stegmaier before. Read on to see how the first experience with this brewer went.

Ken's Review

Taste: C+ While not terrible (hell, we've had a lot worse), the Stegmaier Midsummer White get this taste rating because overall the taste is pretty bland and lazy. There are some citrus undertones that come out, as well as a floral taste that any stronger would have made me dump out the rest of the sixer. For a white ale it could have been so much more, but overall just fell completely short on being an enjoyable beer to drink.

Packaging: B- Nothing too special with the packaging either. The label is mostly yellow with the words "Stegmaier" and "Midsummer White" written in a font reminiscent of a baseball team's name stitched on a shirt or some shit like that. There is a scene near the top of the label of some sort of field (real original). Much like the taste, could have been better in this department as well.

Value: B If I remember right, and Zach may have to correct me, I think this sixer was around $5. While that price is decent for a beer that is a seasonal, and has a moderate alcohol content, I'm not sure that I wouldn't rather mind throwing that money towards something with more depth. For a buck or two more you can open up a much wider horizon of better beers that this stuff, so unless you are just dying for a summer white ale that is cheap, go elsewhere.

Drunkeness: B- Stegmaier Midsummer White comes in at 5% alcohol content. A little low for a summer ale, and a little more alcohol might have helped boost this beer to a better taste overall. As I said under the Value, for a couple bucks more you can get a much better beer with a lot more power to get your night going.

Overall: C I just can't say that I am a fan of this one. I hope if I ever get to try another selection from Stegmaier that it delivers next time, because it sure started off on a bad note for me. Fortunately our uncle paid for it, otherwise I would have almost been pissed laying down cash for this.
