Here is another selection from Upland, as you will start to see more from this brewer pop up on the site thanks to Cari's new job with the brewer. Last night we were at a cook-out hosted by my cousin and her husband, and Cari brought along a wide selection of Upland beers. I tried several, but I'm going to start with the Nut Hugger Brown Ale. Read on to see what this one was like.

Ken's Review

Taste: B+ Upland Nut Hugger Brown Ale has a nice combination of maltiness and nuttiness to it. You get a small jolt of nut flavor from it, but it subsides rather quickly and leaves only faintest after taste in your mouth. It is a pleasant beer, but my only complaint would be that I personally would have liked a little less nuttiness to it, but that's just me. Definitely worth a taste; just probably not one I would ride a night out on.

Packaging: A Nut Hugger comes in a super sweet packaging. There is a squirrel sitting on its hind legs with a pint in its hands taking a sip. I love it! How can you not with a drinking squirrel on it?

Value: ?? I really need to get this info. Since we get it for free I am not up on the retail pricing of Upland stuff as much, but I would venture to say that this also comes in around the $8-$9 range for a sixer. I will correct this statement if I find out differently from Cari.

Drunkeness: B+ The Nut Hugger doesn't grab your nuts with alcohol content, but does give them a little squeeze like you would get when asked to turn and cough at the doctor's office. This one comes in at 5.4%, which will definitely get your night going without sending it into an abyss too fast. A fair level of content for this style of beer, so can't complain too much here.

Overall: A- The Nut Hugger Brown Ale was a nice surprise, and of course has excellent packaging. If you are a fan of nuttier beers, you may find this a little tame but it definitely shines through just enough to create an enjoyable experience. Definitely recommended as one you should try. If you aren't a fan of nut beers, then this may be a little more than you would enjoy, but don't let it stop you as you might be pleasantly surprised.
