Review of Upland Preservation Pilsner

This was one of the rare times I got to try a beer at the brewery it was made. Last weekend I went with Zach and Cari to the Upland Brewery for their "Hillbilly Haiku" festival, a day of food, bands, and (of course) beer all for charity. Preservation Pilsner was one of the choices for purchase, and being as this is one of the ones I had not tried yet, I decided to go for it. Read on and see how this one did.

Ken's Review

Taste: A- I was a huge fan of the Preservation Pilsner. It had a mild bitterness to it, with some nice spice accents behind it. You can kind of taste the interlacing of the malts and hops, and it almost bounced around on your tongue. The finish was very clean, with little to no aftertaste. A very nice pilsner, and one I consumed several pints of.

Packaging: ? This will be one of the few times I cannot give a review on packaging, as currently the Preservation Pilsner is only available in keg form (hence why there is no picture). And we all know what a keg looks like, so no point going too far in this area.

Value: B I paid $4 a pint for this, and I am guessing that while it may have been a little inflated for charity's sake, this is probably a fair estimate on the cost at a bar or at the brewery. For a "green" beer, and one that is kind of limited, this isn't a bad price to pay for a good beer at all.

Drunkeness: A- Preservation comes in at a nice 5.5% alcohol content. After a couple I was definitely feeling it, and after about 5 I was really enjoying myself. Be careful, though, as this is an easy one to consume more than you realize, given the nice balance in taste.

Overall: A- I loved the Preservation Pilsner, and am highly anticipating having it again sometime. I am not sure that this would be nearly as good in bottle form, so hopefully this stuff doesn't get to be too hard to find. If you are a fan of pilsners, definitely give this one a go if you get the chance. I highly doubt that you will be disappointed in this choice!
