Review of Maui Brewing Company Coconut Porter

Last night during some pre-Sunday Night Football festivities at Zach and Cari's, we broke out a can of the Maui Brewing Company Coconut Porter to share. This came back with Zach along with the Bikini Blonde Lager, reviewed earlier. After the success of the Bikini Blonde, read on to see if Maui Brewing Company kept the streak going, or crashed and burned with this one.
Ken's Review
Taste: A- I don't even know where to start with the Coconut Porter, just because there are so many flavors that come out of this one. It has a wonderful aroma of almost like dark chocolate. When you first taste it you get a nice blend of chocolate, coffee, and just the faintest hint of coconut. Once you swallow and it settles, you get a nice backend of just a little more coconut flavor, but a really smooth cocoa/coffee flavor as well. Very surprising, and very good in this department!
Packaging: A- Much like the preceding Maui Brewing beverage, there is a lot to discuss here. The main image on the can is reminiscent of lava. It shows an arm with a coconut-shaped glass in its hand, and lava almost like "erupting" out of the glass. The bottom of the image reads "...Like Hot Chicks on the Beach". And below that in smaller print it reads "Porter Brewed With Hand Toasted Coconut". Not anything to complain about here, that's for sure.
Value: B I do not know exactly what Zach paid for it, as I never got that information, but I have seen this listed on the Net at around $8.99 for a 4-pack. A little pricey, yes, but for such a wonderfully tasting porter, and the soon-to-be-mentioned alcohol content, you can't complain too much about the price. Well, except it is so good that it will end up costing you a lot if you don't watch it.
Drunkeness: B+ Coconut Porter does a little bit better than its Bikini Blonde sibling in this department. Coconut Porter comes in at a nice 5.7% content. Not a lot, but definitely not lacking; it's right there in the zone for this style of beer. It will get you buzzed, I'm sure, after you are into your second one, but this isn't one to down quickly. You want to enjoy each taste.
Overall: A- I am still very impressed with the beers that I've had from Maui Brewing. The Coconut Porter was fantastic, and makes me wish I could get some more of their selection without going to California, Arizona, or Hawaii for it. Hopefully one day I can get more of this one and the Bikini Blonde, and also get a hold of some new brews from them. If you are in an area where you can get this, do not pass it up.
