Cannery Brewing Naramata Nut Brown AleOn a roll tonight with the reviews! This is another one that has been sitting on my list, but this one goes back to the massive taste test at Zach and Cari's a couple month's back. Again, thank goodness for taking notes! Brown ales are an area that I have not had many, but those that I have had were pretty solid to make me a fan of this style of beer. Could Cannery keep the streak going? Read on and find out!

Ken's Review

Taste: B Cannery Naramata is not a subtle brown ale. You get the initial feeling that is distinguishable from a brown ale, then it rapidly goes into a rich, deep chocolate flavor at the peak and backend, with obviously some nuttiness to the middle and end. The chocolate isn't comparable to drinking, say, Hershey's syrup; that's too weak compared to the richness that comes off the taste of this one. For me, personally, the richness was a little too much, but overall a very solid and well-crafted nut brown ale.

Packaging: B- Cannery isn't in the style of flashy packaging for their beers, which is definitely okay. This one is pretty simple. "Cannery Brewing Company" at the top, with a sort of window looking out onto an ocean in the center, and the "Naramata Nut Brown Ale" in a ribbon near the bottom of the scene.

Value: N/A Not sure on this one. Will update if I get pricing.

Drunkeness: B+ Naramata comes in at 5.5% alcohol content. While this is a little into the range of some good content, it isn't enough to get you thrown on the path towards stupor too fast. Frankly, I don't know why if you were at a party or something you would make this your choice, as this is more of a relaxation ale, but to each his own I guess.

Overall: B+ Outside of kind of hoping for a little more toned-down richness to this one, this is a solid nut brown ale, and one I'm sure brown ale fans would dig pretty highly. Not sure I would personally go for this again unless it was in a setting like I initially had it, but not really much to complain about at all here.
