Summit Brewing Extra Pale AleThis one was a nice surprise given to me by a co-worker after a recent trip to Iowa to visit family.  Being that we have to travel a distance from Indy to get Summit beers, I was pretty stoked to try this.  This is one of the few reviews I'm writing while drinking, as well.  Well, in between trying to answer all these Twitter replies I'm getting after mentioning I was drinking it.  Gotta love my crazy drunk friends.  Anywho, read on and see what I thought of this.

Ken's Review

Taste: A- I can definitely understand the Twitter hoopla about this.  This is one damn nice beer.  Not really bold in any way, but nicely balanced in every way! There is a nice mix of a sort of caramel citrus, that doesn't escalate in flavor too much on your tongue.  Each sip gives you a little bit different level of flavor, but never goes over the top.  Fantastic, fantastic, fantastic!

Packaging: B- Summit beer bottle packaging is nothing too fancy or crazy.  But that's totally cool.  It would almost seem unfit to have really wild packaging on a beer like this one, especially; it just wouldn't really make sense.  The main label attraction is 3 stocks/branches/whatever you call it of wheat, with hops in front of the bottom of it.  Summit Brewing Co. is on a banner underneath that, and Extra Pale Ale in a yellow card looking thing underneath that, with a SBC logo declaring they were established in 1986 in St. Paul, MN.

Value: N/A No real idea here, since it was bought for me and brought from out of state.

Drunkeness: B+ Extra Pale Ale comes in at a 5.2% content. Not a slam dunk in this department, but pretty nice, as it allows you to drink more without getting totally smashed. Yeah, the mild buzz is there as I'm about done with this bottle, but it is nowhere close to stopping me from going after another one, or two, provided I didn't have just the one bottle.  Son of a Bit--

Overall: A- Anyway, really glad I got to try this one, and really stoked about getting some more of it sometime in the future. Fortunately through the Twitter conversations I've been having over this beer has led me to friends who make trips to places that have it.  So hopefully I won't have to wait too long to try it, and hopefully more Summit beers!
