While in Louisiana a couple weeks ago eating dinner at a kick-ass restaurant, I inquired of the waitress if they had any beers from Louisiana. Abita was what they told me they had. Abita is one of the few--if not the only--beers from the state, so read more and see if it was worth going local.

Ken's Review

Taste: A Abita Amber had a much cleaner and crisp taste to it. There wasn't much to the amber portion, and it's likely that if you didn't know what you were drinking you may not have guessed it was an amber. Overall the taste is very smooth and goes down very easy. I had the first one finished before I realized how quickly I was drinking.

Packaging: B Abita Amber's packaging doesn't really have a lot to write home about. There is a logo in the center of the bottle that has sort of a gold starburst background with the words "Abita" in big letters across the center. The top label around the bottle reads "Brewed and Bottled with Pure Spring Water". Definitely a plus to the taste, for sure.

Value: B- I didn't pay for the two that I had at dinner, but a sixer of this will run you between $8.99 and $10.99 a sixer, depending on where you get it. While it is some damn good amber, I don't know that I would go so far as to pay almost $11 very often, but I may fork the little extra every great once in awhile. If you can find it around $8.99, then I would be more inclined to say it's a good value.

Drunkeness: B- Abita Amber only comes in at 4.8% alcohol content, which is a little less than what I would have expected, and definitely less than it seemed to be when I was drinking it. I had gotten a mild buzz going into the second bottle, but that could be partly because it was the beginning of dinner. By the end of dinner, I was feeling good.

Overall: A- I give Abita Amber an overall of this grade, because while the alcohol content wasn't fantastic, the taste was. This has become one of my new favorites, and if I can find some locally I will definitely be buying more. Pick some up if you have access to it!
