Beer Poisoning Plot

So, a guy thinks someone in Afghanistan tried to poison him with a beer bottle that had sulfuric acid in it. I'm going to have to go with the analyst that says this is a highly implausible plot. First, why the hell would anyone go to that much trouble to try and poison someone? I would think over there, a lot easier ways to kill someone would present themselves. You also need to think that the people who would try it would have to bribe an American to buy them beer since foreigners are the only ones who can purchase alcohol.
Also, who the hell is this guy that gets his house broken into and decides to try a random beer that was left there? I'd imagine it is pretty hellish over there and you really want beer, but I think you might find a better place to get it than random leftover shit from burglars. Corona??
