A bottle of Sailor Jerry, although not the 1.75 liter I was drinking. I guess this technically isn't a review of Sailor Jerry as I was drinking it with a mixer. There aren't too many liquors I drink on the rocks and I'm not about to start with rum. Anway, this is a review of the Sailor and Diet Coke, so keep that in mind.
Zach's ReviewI guess this technically isn't a review of Sailor Jerry as I was drinking it with a mixer. There aren't too many liquors I drink on the rocks and I'm not about to start with rum. Anway, this is a review of the Sailor and Diet Coke, so keep that in mind. Taste: B+ I have to preface this review to say that I'm not a huge rum fan, but that could be because most of my rum experience had come in college in the form of regular Bacardi. On this particular night, a friend broke out the 1.75-liter bottle of Sailor Jerry and given the lack of a liquor store nearby, I dove right in. It was a night of improvisation as I ended up drinking it out of the hotel coffee cup, given the lack of anything else. I have a theory that this didn't help me later in the night, but on to the taste. I have had Captain Morgan's and I have to say that Sailor Jerry is superior. It has a nice smooth taste and mixes quite well with the Diet Coke. I had no problem putting down a lot of these babies. Packaging: B+ The folks over in Salior Jerry-land seem to have it going on with the label on the bottle. It is a sort of vintage label, which seems to match the overall theme here. The label of the bottle itself is fairly bland, but the fact that there is a hula girl with a ukulele on the one side and there is some cool-looking script text makes up for it. It is hard to be bad with a hula girl on a package! The only thing that might make this one better is if they put on the scruffy-looking, pipe smoking bad ass from the Web site. Value: N/A I don't have much to say here since I didn't buy this and have no idea how much it costs. So, I guess it would be a value of A+ for me! Drunkeness: A- Sailor Jerry really delivers in the drunkeness area. At a hearty 92-proof, the Sailor packs a helluva punch. The only reason it didn't get a full A is because they could have gone all out and given us the 100-proof goodness. Just the same, after a countless number of coffee cups full of this later, I was feeling pretty damn good. I do have to say that drinking liquor in a small cup isn't such a good idea. You just keeping drinking and drinking, without realizing how many you have put down. Overall: A- Overall, the Sailor knows how to whip up a bitchin' batch 'o rum. This superior rum led to superior drunkeness, which led to a superior hangover. Despite this, I will certainly look for SJ the next time I'm going the mixed drink route. Maybe not the 1.75-liter, but that is only for special occassions... Last update: 03-12-2007 11:46
