The wino is back at her search for a GOOD bottle of red wine for under 10 bucks... and drum roll... I think I found one for you dear drinker.
PENFOLD'S Koonunga Hill: Shiraz Cabernet, 2007 AROMA: B. I have a bit of a cold... but I get a whiff of cherries. Perhaps chocolate? Not much though. TASTE: A- 70% Shiraz. 30% Cabernet sauvignon. What a nice mix of these varietals! You have the HINT of spiceness fromn the Shiraz. Yet the bold full flavor of the Cabernet. So drinkable. Has the hint of fruit, but its not sweet. Has a nice level of acidity but then finishes smooth. Someone IS likingit. LABEL: B. I love the classically simple label of Penfolds. Ok... I admit. It's not very creative (hence the B) but it is straightforward. Penfolds has done a great job of branding their wines so that when I see a Penfolds wine, I think, I want to drink that. Sign me up. I want to fly to Australia and go to your winery. Basically- I want to go to there. VALUE: A. I purchased this wine for $8.99 at Fresh Market. Making this a GREAT wine for under 10 bucks. DRUNKENESS: A. 13.5% per volume. Hard to judge but based on drinkability I would have to give this one a high mark. I could easily find myself drinking this whole bottle. Which I shouldn't do. Right? OVERALL: A-. Penfolds makes good wine. If you have the moola to spend more- get a more expensive bottle of Penfolds- you won't regret it. But if you don't have the money, and need to conserve a bit... this is a great deal! You should be proud serving this to guests or drinking this with a nice meal (perhaps steak? OK. Perhaps meatloaf?) So give this ole' wine a whirl. Last update: 01-10-2010 21:43
