Dark Horse Ice High Gravity LagerYes, that's right, we have another malt review!  If you follow us on Twitter or Facebook you have heard about the four malts we were waiting to bust out and try once the new site was up.  Well, this is one of the four that we took down this past weekend.  If you know our history with malts, it has been mainly a poor track record.  Read on and see if this one fell along those same lines, or if this was one of the rare good ones.

Ken's Review

Taste: B Well, this one wasn't bad, but there is a reason it did not get a higher score.  First, why it got this good.  The taste of this malt was very surprising and not at all like a malt, a high gravity, or an "ice" beer.  If you were blindfolded and handed this to drink, chances are good you would think you were drinking a cheap pilsner.  The reason it did not get higher is because you have to take this bitch down pretty fast.  Once it starts to get warm, you are losing that taste fast, so make sure not to let it sit too long.

Packaging: A- You know the packaging on Dark Horse Ice is going to have to be decent.  We sampled a 24 ounce can, which was all dark blue, and in the center had a horse racing through a lightning storm, jumping over "Dark Horse" in some thorny looking font.  "High Gravity" runs on a silver band around the top, and is barely visible except for the mild blue outline on the letters.  Pretty bitching can!

Value: A- I didn't pick this up, it was purchased for us, and I believe ran in the vicinity of $1.50 maybe.  Now, unless you are just out to have a "quality" malt, the value may be overstated here.  But if you were actually in the mood for a malt, then this one is pretty well worth it in the taste/price equation.

Drunkeness: ? Hmmm, well, the alcohol content is not on the can and does not seem to be located anywhere on the Net.  So, this is a rare one that I can't really give a solid answer.

Overall: A- This was a bittersweet malt to have, as we've had so many good reviews lately that we were really hoping for a bad one.  But, this is one of those rare malts that was actually drinkable.  Remember, this was one of four we need to drink and review, so odds are good that a bad one has to exist in there somewhere.  As for this one, you will be surprised, and more than likely not disappointed.
